Co-operative Mind Mapping. Family workshop for curious minds
Come play with making a hands-on mind map of words and objects, inspired by the current exhibitions in the Culture House; Points of View and 3-D Semantic Net of Icelandic Vocabulary.
The Culture House is a house of cultural institutions, namely the National Gallery, - Museum, - Library, - Archives, Natural History Museum and Árni Magnússon Institute of Icelandic Studies, which all have gems from their collections on view in the exhibition Points of View. The display connects cultural objects of different mediums and time periods and takes the viewer on a journey through the visual world of Iceland.
What can be learned from making a connection between drawings of birds and documents of the 1703 census? What feelings emerge when abstract paintings are viewed next to a manuscript of magic spells? Or a century old photograph alongside a 21. Century video installation?
In a manner similar to how the 3-D semantic net connects words based on the understanding we have of the them, visitors will co-create a hands-on mind map using words and objects.
The workshop is run by Jóhanna Ásgeirsdóttir, www.joa.is. Jóa is a visual artist and educator who makes collaborative community art about the perception and understanding of different environments.
