Museum Night at the Culture House
The National Museum of Iceland welcomes guest to Museum Night at the Culture House. The Culture House is open from 18.00-23.00 and admission is free during that time.
19:00 - 22:00: Co-operative Mind Mapping. Family workshop for curious minds
Come play with making a hands-on mind map of words and objects, inspired by the current exhibitions in the Culture House; Points of View and 3-D Semantic Net of Icelandic Vocabulary.
20:00 - 21:00: Special Points of View
Specialists from the institutions that contribute to the exhibition Points of View – a Journey through the Visual World of Iceland are present between 8 and 9 pm and talk to guests about items of special interest. The exhibition is a collaboration between Iceland's three leading museums in their respective fields – the National Museum of Iceland, National Gallery of Iceland and the Icelandic Museum of Natural History – and the National Archives of Iceland, National and University Library of Iceland, and Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies.

Ganymede by Bertel Thorvaldsen
The sculpture Ganymede is by the Icelandic/Danish artist Bertel Torvaldsen (1770-1844) and is from the collection of the National Gallery. Thorvaldsen made the original in Rome in 1804, which makes this marble sculpture among the oldest works in the National Gallery's collection. It is on view in the Treasure space at the Culture House.
Semantic net of Icelandic Vocabulary
There is a visual 3-D representation of Icelandic vocabulary on view at the Culture House. It is based on a semantic net by Jón Hilmar Jónsson. The exhibition is arranged by the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies.

The Culture House holds the exhibition Points of View – a journey through the visual world of Iceland. Families with children can find, on their way through the exhibition, places where you can play, touch and explore. These places are Frodin's retreat. Look for Frodin and step inside.
