Viking Games and Crafts with Rimmugýgur
The Viking Group Rimmugýgur sets up camp outside the National Museum of Iceland on Culture Night. There will be game shows with game masters and the brave among guests may even participate.
Among the games is a ball game (knattleikur) that usually lasts 30-60 minutes. In addition to group games, you can test your strength and agility, throw axes and shoot from a bow at a target. In the tents, artisans practice their craft using Viking Age methods, and you can buy artefacts directly from them and even get some instruction in craftsmanship. There will be an open fire in firebowls.
In one of the tents, the Museum Education provides costumes in Viking Age style for children aged 8-12 to wear. Rimmugýgur helps finish the look by supplying weapons and shields for the kids.
All are welcome and free admission from 10 am - 5 pm.
