On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Bóla-Hjálmar (1796-1875), the National Museum of Iceland and the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies are hosting a symposium on the well-known folk poet. The symposium will discuss Bólu-Hjálmar's life and his diverse life's work, but in addition to being one of the nation's greatest folk poets, he collected folk lore and devoted himself to carving. Between lectures, members of the Iðunn Poet Society will recite verses by Bólu-Hjálmar to songs that have been preserved among his descendants.
Ævar Kjartansson will moderate the symposium.
