Guided Tour and Collage Workshop for Children During Winter Break: Stories of Skeletons, the Bridal Costume and Baðstofur

To mark the winter break in primary schools, the National Museum of Iceland invites children of primary school age to visit the museum and explore its exhibitions with a museum educator on Friday, 23 October at 14:00.

The museum’s objects hold many stories. The skeletons on display, for example, provide unique information about the lives and deaths of the people they belonged to and deepen our understanding of life in Iceland during the Viking Age. An elaborate 18th-century bridal costume reveals the remarkable lives of women from one of Iceland’s wealthiest and most powerful families. The journey of the costume itself through the centuries, culminating in its presence in the museum today, is equally extraordinary. And what about the baðstofa? What exactly do we mean when we talk about a baðstofa?

After exploring the exhibitions, children are invited to take part in a collage workshop inspired by the wall artwork created by Kristjana Williams Studio for the exhibition A Voyage in History – The Bridal Costume. The workshop takes place in the family and children’s area on the first floor, where children can also enjoy free play.

A museum admission ticket includes access to the event. Please note that an admission ticket also serves as an annual pass to the museum, providing access to all museum events and exhibitions for one year from the date of purchase upon presentation of the ticket. Admission to exhibitions and events is free for children under the age of 18.
