Star-Sævar welcomes kids of all ages and their families and teaches about solar eclipses, but a total eclipse is expected over the western part of the country this coming summer. After the educational session, the museum's educator invites guests to follow her into the museum's main exhibition to look for stars, suns and moons.

On August 12, 2026, Icelanders will experience a total solar eclipse for the first time since 1954. Since the settlement, the moon's shadow has touched the country twelve times and sometimes sent shivers down people's spines. Why did people fear solar eclipses? When did we learn that there was nothing to fear, but that they were just more beautiful and magnificent. During the educational session, guests will explore solar eclipses in the past and future. Participants will be able to view the sun with solar telescopes if the weather is good.

Sævar Helgi Bragason is a television and radio presenter, writer and science communicator. He has received various awards for outstanding science communication and also an Icelandic language recognition from the Icelandic Language Committee.
