Guided Tour: Fathers Through Good Times and Bad [Icelandic]

The National Museum of Iceland offers an exciting programme of events every Sunday throughout the winter and spring. The first Sunday of each month is dedicated to children and families, while other Sundays feature expert-guided tours of the museum’s exhibitions. On the last Sunday of each month, the guided tour is conducted in a foreign language.
On Father’s Day, Sunday, 8 November at 2 pm, Kristján Hannesson will turn his attention to fathers in the National Museum’s permanent exhibition. On this relatively new day of celebration, we will explore what it has meant to be a father in Iceland throughout the centuries. The guided tour will examine how fatherhood has been shaped by society, religion, work and family life. We will reflect on ideas of paternal authority, responsibility and child-rearing, and how the roles of fathers and mothers, men and women, have evolved over time. Through museum objects and historical sources, we will explore different perceptions of family life and the position of fathers in Icelandic society, past and present.
Please note that the tour is in Icelandic.
Museum admission includes access to the event. Please note that an admission ticket also serves as an annual pass, granting access to all museum exhibitions and events upon presentation of the pass. Admission to exhibitions and events is free for children under 18.
