Tuesdaymovie: Iceland on the Prairies

Tuesdays at noon, the National Museum hosts a variety of events, such as movie film screenings, guided tours and lectures.
Thuesdaymovie at The National Museum is a regular part of the series of events in collaboration with the National Film Archives. Regular film screenings of Icelandic films and clips are held at the museum’s lecture hall.
Tuesday March 3rd the screening is of the film Iceland on the Prairies from 1940. The film is a unique source about the life of Icelanders in the Western world in the middle of the last century. You can see how Icelandic traditions lived with the people and what traditions the people cultivated from the old country. Gunnar Tómas Kristófersson, a research specialist at the Icelandic Film Archives, will educate people during the film and answer questions at the end. The screening lasts 45 minutes.
A museum ticket is needed for entry to the event. Please note that an admission ticket is equivalent to an annual pass to the museum.

The main role of the National Film Archives is to collect, document and preserve Icelandic films; supervise the return of film material in accordance with the law, and organize exhibitions of domestic and foreign cinema. The museum also performs the role of maintaining and restoring the museum's films and offering facilities for scholars and professionals to conduct film research.
