Ethnological study: On and Off Base - Life at the Naval Air Station Keflavik

  • 21.3.2023 - 31.12.2023

The Reykjanesbær Heritage Museum and the National Museum of Iceland are currently conducting an ethnological study by collecting stories about the defence force at Miðnesheiði. The goal is to collect and preserve information about people's personal experiences.

Four questionnaires have been designed to collect this information. One is in English and is intended for military personnel and their families who stayed in Iceland. Those who are interested can participate in the project online. All four questionnaires can be accessed through the cultural-historical database Sarpur.is

The English questionnaire can be accessed directly here.

The other three are in Icelandic and deal with:

The work at the base

Cultural influence

Military opposition

We thank everyone who participates in the study.
